Sloping Block into a Beautiful Tiered Garden
Sloping Block is a Gem!
Homeowners often see a sloping block as a problem. Even though slopes require more thought and initial effort, they also form the basis of the best gardens! They create more interesting spaces full of opportunity and character. In this garden, the lack of any flat area was a big problem and made the garden unusable. My goal was to reimagine the space and create a multi-functional garden that would cater to various needs. Through careful planning and creative design, I developed three distinct tiers, each serving a unique purpose. And best of all, no Development Application (DA) was required.
Before
Flat Turf Entertaining Area
The top tier of the garden is now a beautiful flat turf area integrating a natural-feel seating and fire pit area. This top tier is perfect for entertaining, providing a lush, green lawn that’s ideal for hosting gatherings, family picnics, or simply relaxing in the sun.
Natural Rock Garden for Imaginative Play
The middle tier is dedicated to a natural rock garden. Using locally sourced stones, I created an inviting and adventurous space where children can let their imaginations run wild. This area combines native plants with different foliage and textures, welcoming wildlife while being a perfect spot for kids to engage with nature and invent their own games.
Veggie Patch Platform
The lowest tier of the garden is entirely dedicated to a veggie patch. This flat platform is an organic gardener's dream, offering ample space for growing a variety of vegetables and herbs. With rich, fertile soil and optimal sunlight exposure, the veggie patch is set up for maximum productivity. This area not only promotes healthy living but also provides an educational experience for children and adults alike, fostering a deeper connection with the food we eat.
